Broadcast Journalism 

Similar to images, video and broadcast are some of the most engaging ways to tell stories today. Videos can go online and on social media to report news, share stories, and more. During my time in journalism, I have had the opportunity to explore the various ways that video and broadcast can be used in storytelling. 

 

COVID-19 Vlog

During quarantine, I decided to vlog my day to share out with other high school students. The pandemic disrupted daily lives, so I wanted to show people what my life at home was like. For this video, I filmed and edited everything by myself. Although it was a challenge because it was the first video I produced on my own, it ended up being a fun creative project for me to spend my time on.

 
 

Social media

  • Promotional Videos

    A big part of social media is promoting our content which we often do through short videos on Instagram and Facebook. I was often in charge of producing these videos by creating a script for the video and filming the video. These videos usually were done in a few takes, with me serving and a guide to staffers in the video.

  • Story Posts

    Instagram stories are a fun way to feature videos that often reach a larger audience than a typical post. In the past, I have used Instagram stories to film short videos showcasing the behind-the-scenes of the staff, as well as coverage for events like sporting games.

iliad Outreach

As part of the iliad program, we reach out to feeder schools to gain submissions to publish rising ninth graders. Our outreach director filmed a video on a presentation about the submissions we accept and how the students can submit to us. My role in the process was going through and

 

Introduction to Broadcast

During my time in Journalism I, I engaged in an introduction to broadcast unit. Throughout the unit, we went over types of broadcast videos, how to film videos, and studied and reviewed exemplars. For our summative for this unit, we were required to write a script and film the components of a traditional news video. This project taught me how to speak in front of a camera, write a script and produce a quality broadcast video.
