Web and Social Media

Online platforms are the main form of media and communication today, especially for high school students. Because of that, most of my stories have been published on our website. With that awareness and my role as social media coordinator my sophomore year, I worked to create engaging content for our audience and students that would draw them to the website and our magazine. My work creating engaging content for social media transferred online through the creation of multimedia and unique packaging for website stories, something our staff strongly emphasizes.

Web

  • iliad Website Revamp

The iliad has struggled over the years to maintain a website. This year one of my main goals was to create a website to showcase current and past work. Throughout the fall semester, I worked with other members of the iliad team to build a website from scratch on Squarespace in order to increase accessibility and engagement, as well as feature artists and past creative works from the iliad. I worked alongside local website designer Beth Thrasher during the process.

  • Day of Jubilee

For this story, I decided to elevate the presentation of our photo essay using Adobe Spark. Packaging a photo essay online can be a challenge in order to ensure it does not look like a gallery. The story covering a memorial of the enslaved people buried under Baldwin Hall was a very sensitive one that I was proud to cover. I wanted to ensure that its delivery was well executed, so I packaged the photo essay using Spark to get it online in a visually appealing and unique format.

  • Byrne's Beats

I had the opportunity to interview an alumnus about his music career at his music studio outside of Athens. There, I was able to photograph him in his natural element for environmental portraits to generate additional images for the website. I also worked to generate a map and pick out pull quotes to add to the immersive experience for a Q&A. After the story, he used one of my photographs for his profile photo on his social media accounts.

    Classic City Championship Package

Every year, our school plays our cross-town rivals in the Classic City Championship. Prior to the game, I wrote a preview for the cheerleading team to report on a lesser-known aspect of the rivalry. I also created a timeline numerating the past outcomes of the championship in the last ten years to help add to the overall package that was produced in anticipation of the rivalry game.

Social Media

Linnentown Reaction

After community elders of Linnentown, a neighborhood that was gentrified and destroyed by the University of Georgia, came and spoke to the school I got a reaction scene from one of our well-known students about the issue. I used his interview to produce this short story for social media. The post ended up receiving a good amount of engagement due to the timely nature of the event, as well as the notoriety of the student.

COVID-19 Breaking news

During my time running social media, the COVID-19 pandemic was rippling through the world. Our social media served our student body by consistently producing break news on district and state-related news relating to COVID-19 and school. I worked diligently to put out breaking news posts as quickly as possible, sometimes having to drop everything, to get our school the updated news. These posts ended up receiving a lot of engagement and successfully informing the Clarke Central High School community.

Dr. Love’s Passing

After a beloved member of the school community passed, I quickly formulated this post to honor him and inform the community about his passing. Although it was a short post, I wanted to ensure it got out to our audience in a timely manner. The post ended up being shared and informing the community about his passing and became a place for people to share their reactions to the shocking news.

COVID-19 Infographic

When the COVID-19 pandemic first started to affect the country, I created this infographic for social media in addition to the updates we were posting. Our school district had just announced the suspension of in-person learning, so I created the post in hopes of creating a place for students to find important statistics related to the pandemic in one place.

Swim Team Results

After our swim team competed at the state competition, I created a post and graphic compiling the results of the competition. Social media is always a good place to share out sports-related information, as the student body typically interacts with those posts. This post is one of the many examples of the sporting event results posts that I have created for social media.

Black History Month Scene and Promotion

After photographing the Black Culture Club’s Black History Month Celebration, I helped create this post featuring one of the students who helped put together the celebration. The post served as a stand-alone story about the event, as well as a promotional post for the video and event coverage of the event that was posted online.
